With so many important facets of your business to focus on and only 24 hours in the day, it can be tough to find the time to fit everything in. Marketing is important in getting customers to your business, but it doesn’t have to be a hard or expensive part of your job. There are tons of free tools out there that can help propel your construction business forward, whether your ideal client is the average citizen or a fellow business.

Social media

It probably goes without saying, but, in 2019, having a social media presence for your business is extremely important, and you’re certainly missing out on customers if your business isn’t regularly using these platforms. The type of business you have and your ideal client will help you determine which social media platforms are right for your businesses. Regardless of your target audience, we highly recommend creating a Facebook page. If you’re targeting other businesses, perhaps LinkedIn is another great place to be. If your work is highly visual, maybe an instagram account makes sense.

Once you’re social, there are a number of ways to get the most out of each platform. The easiest way to generate continuous traffic is to post consistently. Consistent posting allows your page to keep popping up in customer’s news feeds and shows customers who visit your page that you’re active. If posting every day isn’t something that you think you can commit to, you’ll be pleased to learn that Facebook now lets you schedule posts in advance. If you integrate your Instagram account, you can schedule Instagram content through Facebook, as well.

Remember that there is more to Facebook than just posting on your own page. Many towns and regions have Facebook groups for people seeking recommendations on local contractors. There may also be groups made for your state’s business owners, etc.

Canva

You don’t need to be an expert to make eye-catching graphics for your web and print ads. One of our favorite tools to use is Canva, an easy to use system with appropriate-sized graphics for all of your needs. Whether you’re looking to design a poster, email header, Instagram post, or anything in between, Canva has hundreds of templates to choose from. Easily add text, stickers, and your logo to images to attract more attention online.

YouTube

Depending on what your business does, it might make sense for you to start a YouTube channel to share videos of your equipment and work examples. Once your video is uploaded, it’s easy to share it to social media and to embed it on your website or into an email.

Blogs

If you have a few hours of time to dedicate, there are tons of blogs on the internet - like this one you’re reading now - that can help you learn more about digital marketing. There is a ton of valuable information available on the internet for free, you just have to make the time to find it. A quick google search can bring you to just about anything you need to find, but we recommend you check the source your information is coming from before accepting it as gospel.

Free online courses

Similar to online resources, there are a number of great free digital marketing courses available online. If you can make the time to dedicate, you can get college-level knowledge for free. We’d recommend that you check out:

SEO

Search Engine Optimization is critical to making an impact online. Whether it’s being intentional in the coding of your website to create the best page descriptions to get picked up in organic searches or learning the right keywords to use across your pages, optimizing for search engine pickup can make a big difference for you.

Online profiles

There are many different online directories available today and they are a very popular way for people to choose the businesses they hire. We highly recommend that you make a complete profile and ask customers to review your services.

Google MyBusiness

Similar to the online profiles mentioned above, Google allows you to claim your business listing and add information. You can talk about the services you offer and post in a similar manner that you would on social media. This allows potential customers to see that you are actively involved in and care about sharing more about your business.
