Branding Basics: The Easiest Ways to Bring Professionalism to Your Business
When it comes to your business and your online presence, a sense of professionalism is an absolute must. Luckily, professionalism is easy to project if you stick to one key phrase: Consistency is key.
Consistency in your branding shows that your business values a clean, crisp look, accuracy, and precision. It shows potential customers that you are the real deal and that you can be trusted. It also leads to easy brand recognition and awareness. There are a number of things that your business should be doing/using consistently in order to enhance your professionalism and put your best foot forward.
Logo
First, using the same logo in all of your branding is essential. Your logo may have several different versions, like color, black and white, with or without a tag line, and more, which is completely okay as long as they share the same elements, particularly the font and design. Some brands have an image or icon as part of their logo. If your business falls into that category, it might make sense to use the logo without the icon, or, just the icon without the company’s name in some cases. These are both great options, as long as each element is consistent with that of your main logo. Furthermore, if the icon is recognizable without your business’s name attached to it, you’ve done a great job with brand recognition!
Colors
The color palette you choose to use for your business is very important because it should be used for all communications and materials moving forward. That’s not to say that each and every color needs to be in your logo, but you do want to have 4-5 complementary colors that you routinely turn to across your website, social media, and packaging, and other materials. For example, our logo is yellow and black, but you also see elements of red, teal, and grey throughout our website and social media pages. A consistent color profile used across all of your platforms helps to strengthen your brand and allows for easy recognition of your work.
Fonts
Using a consistent font (or font pairings) is equally as important as using a consistent color scheme. If you’ve ever read a document or been in a presentation that used inconsistent fonts throughout, you’ve witnessed the lack of professionalism that mix matching fonts creates. Choosing two or three fonts that go well with your logo and are easy to read, and being consistent in how you use them (as headings, main body text, etc.) across all of your promotional materials will help to showcase your business’s professionalism, as well.
Voice
Another element of your brand that should be used consistently is your voice. Just like any person’s personality would dictate the way that they think, speak, and act, the same goes for your brand. Thinking of your brand’s voice as its own person and stepping into its shoes will help you to be consistent in writing your captions, blog posts, promotional materials, and more. If you’ve ever met someone or heard of something on a tv show or the radio that reminded you of a friend, you know what it is to have a consistent voice. Think about the consistency you see from major brands in their commercials and advertisements. You’ve probably been able to guess what product a commercial was for before the brand or product name was ever revealed.
